Neurosis' A Sun That Never Sets turns 20

Following my previous writing on the albums Through Silver in Blood and Times of Grace by  influential Post Metal act, Neurosis , this writing will focus on an album that celebrates its 20th anniversary today.

Let's talk about Neurosis' A Sun That Never Sets.

Neurosis' Through Silver In Blood turns 25

It's time to talk about the iconic album (with an iconic album cover to boot) from the juggernaut of Post Metal:

Let's talk about Neurosis' Through Silver In Blood, which celebrates its 25th year anniversary today.

Dead Fish Chronicle's Arah Timur: 10 Year Anniversary

(Because I have been heavily influenced by them in the creation of our own doujin comic compilation, this post might as well double as Fault's Artists Highlight!)

The Arah Timur anthology is a series of Touhou Project doujin comic compilation by the circle Dead Fish Chronicles, spanning a total of six books. The first of the series was released in Comic Fiesta 2009, and with today being exactly 10 years since that release, I would like to do a sort of retrospective of the series of books.

Neurosis' Times of Grace turns 20

What's this? Touhou meets Neurosis?

A rather odd choice, if I do say myself, given the two sharing almost no similarity whatsoever (and I’m curious at how many out there who happens to be fans of both)... but if I could use the former as an excuse to talk more about this mighty band, well then…!

With their sixth record celebrating its 20 year release anniversary today, I figured this would be a good occasion to talk about this phenomenal record, and explore some aspect of this influential yet enigmatic band.

Ms. Patchouli

‘Ms. Patchouli, what went on in your head?
Oh, Ms. Patchouli , did you talk to the dead?’

Saw a drawing of Sumireko ala Aleister Crowley, and that had gotten me to think about that one song by Ozzy Osbourne, and… nasi lemak?

2019: burning with positivity, or positively burning?

Thought I'd start to use the blog more to post some of my drawings - though don't count too much about that promise just yet!

Some drawings I did

I've been slow in drawing recently, so I thought I'd put up some pieces that I've been working on earlier this year, for some friends.

I have a couple of pieces that I was planning to finish for last month (March)... so I'd better work on them through this weekend, yeap.

I guess this is an update (+art dump)

I've been mulling over the purpose of writing out thoughts out here on the 'net: and it was not because of the fear that whatever I say will go into the void (though that used to be my fear, I admit...)

Animangaki 2014: Scroll of Phantasm, and some other rambling

A long overdue post, but I feel like just giving some thoughts over the event and a little bit on the Touhou Project fanbase:

4 years of eating danmaku

Wow, it has been a while since we started with the whole series eh? Admittedly others were way into it much longer... but hey.

As has been with previous entries to commemorate the event, I owe it to CROW'SCLAW and a rather long dormant blog on instilling the interest for the series.

It began with these two

[Drawing] 2hu Labor's Day

I drew these for Labor's Day: Servants and subordinates of Touhou, just taking it easy on their day off.

Perhaps Koakuma and Iku should be in there as well, but didn't really occur for me to put them there. The first piece was done on literally the 11th hour of 1st of May, with the second one drawn about... an hour after the first one is done?

I had fun drawing the part for Yoshika and Nazrin-Shou. Also, a bit of KanColle reference if you noticed haha (hint: Komachi)

From Touhou Project to Kantai Collection

There has been a lot of talk of Kantai Collection, with noticeable jump to the series from hardcore and true blue Touhou fans (present company included), that I feel the time is ripe to talk about this phenomena, in the midst of all the bad ship puns being cranked out now and then (by yours truly, who else?!).

Like so

[Drawing] Shakinbanki

This is actually my first attempt at colouring digitally after a ... long, long time (not to say I've been extensively colouring digitally then: so this is something like trying out a new stuff for me). I’ve noticed these two can be represented well with the three basic colours, so I went with that.

The moment I saw Haruna I could immediately imagine her sitting side by side with Sekibanki (and maybe Vincent (Valentine) thrown in the mix somewhere - shoulda done that, heh); Kagerou and Youtaro/Kirishima are there just because.

I should try drawing a Kagerou/Kagerou one next...

Seriously, why don't we see more pairing of these two? (something like this: the only other instance I could find them both...)

Day of birth: sketches

Albeit about a week ago. I was out in the field, with no internet access (plus the fact that my laptop had pretty much died...)

Well, better late than never they say. In place of social media (and internet), I've spend much of my time recently filling up my sketchbook with a lot of (nonsensical) sketches. Here's two of them off about my birthday:

Will be spamming more nonsense sketches in the future, heh.

Foreground Eclipse: a look through their releases

I'm sure those who have been closely following this circle for a while have heard of their announcement to disband way back in August last year (!). With their last album released last Comiket, we haven't heard any final farewell announcement from their website - but through their subsequent announcements it seems the decision was final.

ADDENDUM: It is final.

Farewell.

With their latest album released, let's take a brief walk through their previous releases shall we?

Comic Fiesta 2013

Well, this is admittedly late for a post-event... post, but hey would you look at that, I haven't written anything for Comic Fiesta for last year...

So doubling as a year end post, lets recap what happened at the event shall we? Not really a review of the event per se, more of some personal rambling on recollection. You know what to expect.

Kantai Collection: what the hell is up with it?!

By now a lot of people are playing (or at least aware of) Kantai Collection that it begs the question of, 'who else haven't played Kantai Collection yet?'.

And fortunately (or unfortunately?) I'm not in those group.

An overview on Singaporean Touhou fans from a Malaysian perspective

This was not the first time Malaysia and Singapore have events so close together, with C2AGE and Cosfest occuring in such close proximity between each other a few months ago (which I've opted for the latter, seeing as I couldn't make it for the first one).

With Animangaki taking place just the week before Singapore's STGCC, it might be crazy to think of even going to another event, much less one a few hundred kilometres down south. But that's what a few of us did, and it's mainly for one reason:

TAM is a pretty humble person, I like him. And his playing is of course great. Nothing beat seeing the real thing in the flesh, hey!

Animangaki 2013 Touhou section: hope and gratitude for the local Touhou fans

Last weekend marks the third year of the Touhou section of Animangaki (this year being called as Animangaki Touhou Festival, with the second one being refered to as Touhou GenTouShou). As someone who was involved in helping for all the three consecutive years, I’d like to give a short review and critique on the Touhou section. This post is meant not only for this year’s post-event review, but hopefully as a review for any future activity among the local Touhou group over here.

Excuse for lack of picture for this year's event
